Ho-Chun Herbert Chang studies polarization, belief, and identity, drawing from social media and large datasets for sociological insight. He has recently covered the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 USA and Taiwanese Elections, the George Floyd protests, and inequality in mentorship networks.
His research has been featured in Scientific American and the New York Times, with publications in journals like First Monday, Harvard Misinformation Review, Knowledge-Based Systems, and New Journal of Physics. He works primarily with the Ferrara Lab, with work affiliations with NYU CR+DS and the Neukom Institute at Dartmouth College. He received his M.Sc. in artificial intelligence from the University of Edinburgh and triple majored in math, quantitative social science, and writing as a Senior Fellow at Dartmouth College.
In his free time, he enjoys writing and designing sound systems for musicians. Whether it is through data or investigative pieces, his primary aim is to tell a compelling, human story.
