Join us in conversation with Dr. Hector Amaya to discuss his new book "The Economy of Anonymity: Power in the Age of Identification”. The work examines how anonymity serves as a crucial, paradoxical tool for both resisting and exercising power within a modern society defined by surveillance, datafication, and mandatory identification.

Dr. Hector Amaya is Professor of Communication in the USC Annenberg School of Communication. He has authored four books and published dozens of articles on identity, Latin American media, immigration, and Latinx media studies. A leader in his intellectual community, Dr. Amaya is the past Chair of the Latina/o Communication Studies Division of the National Communication Association (NCA), the past Chair of NCA’s La Raza Caucus, and the past Chair of the Latino Caucus of the Society of Cinema and Media Studies. Dr. Amaya served as Director of the Annenberg School of Communication until last July, was a visiting scholar at the Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Sciences (CASBS, Stanford U) and a member of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS, Princeton).
