Steffie’s research interests revolve around how different media structures shape sociocultural capital, mentality, and self-identity within online networks. She aims to design research that involves mixed-methods, which reflects her academic training in both qualitative and quantitative fields. Steffie received her B.A. in Linguistics and M.A. in Communication Studies from Seoul National University in South Korea. She has also completed graduate studies in Master of Media Arts and Sciences at Indiana University, where she taught a media production course for two years. Before coming to America, she worked as a research assistant at Seoul National University Asia Center. Her first thesis was on how people present profile pictures on Kakaotalk, a Korean social media. Her second thesis in progress is on the relationship between media use, mental health, and interpersonal relationships.
