Matthew N. Bui researches the social, cultural, and spatial implications of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in everyday life. He is particularly interested in furthering urban data science as a form of critique, and critiquing (and contributing to) the theories and methods of urban data science. The son of refugee parents, Matt has written, presented, and taught on a variety of topics related to communication, technology, identity, community engagement, and justice. Before Annenberg, Matt worked in nonprofit marketing and volunteered as a mentor for emerging leaders, many of whom were also first-generation college students. He graduated with honors from UCLA, with a BA in Communications, and completed his MSc in Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Through all of his work, Matt strives to give back to the community as a scholar, advocate, and activist. For more information, visit
