Alumna and former fellow highlighted for documentary work

"Street Knowledge 2 College," a PBS web series from alumna and former research fellow Jennifer Taylor, was featured by online daily Colorlines.com earlier this week. "Street Knowledge" documents Taylor's work at FREE LA High School, an alternative school for students, up to the age of 24, whose educational careers have been stalled by the harsh realities of life in South Los Angeles. The "social issue documentation," she said, highlights the struggles of the community by painting intimate portraits of students who are trying to get their lives on track and attend college. "I did the initial research for it while in the Specialized Journalism program -- with a focus on looking for best practices in working collaboratively with community and youth producers in the era of Youtube -- and then did all the story development and filming while working as a research fellow in the following year," she said.

The 15-episode series is available for viewing here.
