Alhambra Source announces three new collaborations

USC Annenberg's Alhambra Source has fostered three new partnerships. The trilingual newsmagazine is based in the diverse city of Alhambra and is a collaboration of USC Annenberg students, journalists, and local reporters.

Alhambra Source has partnered with Next American City, a nonprofit organization that aims to promote social and environmental growth. They do this by hosting national events, publishing a quarterly magazine, and maintaining an interactive website. Next American City recently featured a redevelopment story that Alhambra Source reported on. Alhambra Source has also teamed up with LA Beez, an online network that works toward providing ethnic communities with news coverage. LA Beez published an Alhambra Source redevelopment story. Hyphen, an Asian American publication, represents another collaboration.

The magazine was started by a group of 20- to 30-year-old journalists in San Francisco. Hyphen prides itself in "tackling issues of culture and community with substance and sass." The magazine recently published an Alhambra Source article titled "Going to Vegas for the Holidays." About Alhambra Source: Alhambra Source is the city's only independent, local news outlet. A multilingual news website where dozens of community members — working with a professional journalist — report on their city, the site serves as a forum for local voices, and a platform for the expression and development of writers, videographers, and photographers.

Alhambra Source is also part of a joint research project at USC Annenberg’s Communication School’s Metamorphosis Project and the School of Journalism, investigating how local news can improve civic engagement in a diverse city.
