Leroy Aarons , journalism professor and director of the USC Annenberg School’s Sexual Orientation Issues in the News program, died Sunday, November 28, after a long battle with cancer. He was 70. Aarons was a journalist, author, teacher and playwright whose assignments took him around the globe, and whose stewardship of The Oakland Tribune helped garner a Pulitzer Prize for the paper’s 1989 coverage of the Loma Prieta earthquake in the San Francisco bay area.

57 Everett Rogers , former associate dean and Walter Annenberg Professor of Communication at USC Annenberg, passed away Thursday, October 21 in New Mexico. He served on the faculty from 1985-93 and later became chair of the University of New Mexico's Department of Journalism and Communication. "Ev was unsparing in his devotion to teaching, as well as to innovative scholarship," said Peter Clarke , former Dean of the USC Annenberg School. "He was beloved for his intellectual generosity, as well as his insights into the contributions that better communication can make to improving people's lives."
