Knight Foundation launches new media training center at USC, UC Berkeley

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation announced on April 24 the launch of the Knight New Media Center, to be based at USC Annenberg School and the Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley. Eric Newton, director of journalism initiatives for the Knight Foundation, and USC Annenberg Dean Geoffrey Cowan (pictured) made the announcement at the annual convention of the American Society of Newspaper Editors in Seattle. The Center is "dedicated to helping good journalists and good journalism succeed in the 21st century by providing training for New Media at all levels." Vikki Porter, the award-winning former editor and reporter who has directed the Western Knight Center for the last six years, will serve as the Center’s director. "Thanks to our great directors and our partnership with Knight Foundation and news organizations across the country, we will continue to be in the forefront of the effort to improve journalism nationwide," said Cowan.
