Between Homelands

Between Homelands was the 2015 production of the public radio documentary class taught and edited, in workshop style, by veteran radio journalists Sandy Tolan and Karen Lowe.  The series explored immigration through individual stories representing the myriad communities that make up Los Angeles.  Reporters in the class found in each place a singular voice who, in her or his own words, brought the broader story of that community to the ears of listeners across LA, California, and the U.S.  These were high-quality, sound-rich public radio portraits.  Each reporter was also responsible for producing a visual component, thereby making the work truly multi-platform.  Between Homelands reports ran on KQED's The California Report, the statewide public radio program, and were re-purposed into an hour-long national special on PRX.
