Myoung-Sun (Kelly) Song graduated magna cum laude from Ewha Womans University in South Korea with a B.A. in English Language and Literature. For her senior thesis, she explored the literary techniques used in the lyrics of rapper Tupac Shakur. She continued her studies with an M.A. in Professional Writing, also at Ewha, where her thesis looked at gender, fashion and consumption in Korean popular culture. Her professional experiences include working as a CRM/marketing coordinator at a global luxury fashion house and managing international communication projects for a cultural arts foundation in Korea. Her research broadly looks at the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity and identity in Korean popular culture and popular music. Currently, she is working on her dissertation that looks at the meaning of hip hop in Korea through the lives and works of rap artists.
