Cracking the code: Exploring computer science in popular media

Monday, November 6, 2017 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm Wallis Annenberg Hall (ANN), Forum

Diversity and inclusion in tech is a hot topic. Join us for a panel discussion to hear about how Google’s CS in Media team is trying to encourage more tech portrayals. We’ll also share recently released findings from a joint USC Annenberg-Google investigation into the prevalence and portrayal of computer science in TV and film. Featuring Dr. Stacy L. Smith (founder and director, Media, Diversity, & Social Change Initiative), Daraiha Greene (head of CS in media multicultural strategy, Google), Kim Swennen (backend software engineer on the YouTube channel subscriptions team, Google) and Christopher C. Rogers (creator/executive producer/showrunner, AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire).
