Is the future of American religion already behind us?

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

7 p.m.

Newman Hall, USC Caruso Catholic Center

Throughout the second half of the 20th century, religious leaders, movements, ideas and institutions figured prominently in American culture and politics — from Martin Luther King, Jr., Billy Graham and Rabbi Abraham Heschel through secular theology, the anti-Vietnam marches, liberation theology, the embrace of Asian gurus, spirituality and cults to the rise of the religious right and the culture wars that changed the shape of American politics.

Longtime Newsweek religion editor Kenneth L. Woodward will attempt to answer those questions, with responses by Pepperdine Professor of Political Science J. Christopher Soper and USC Annenberg Associate Professor and Knight Chair in Media and Religion Diane Winston.

Presented by the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies (IACS) at USC and co-sponsored by The Pepperdine Center for Faith and Learning. This event is part of the Condon Lecture Series. For more information, please contact IACS at (213) 740-1864 or iacs@dornsife.usc.edu
