Frequently Asked Questions - Graduate Application Process

Providing Recommendation Letters
Each Annenberg graduate program has different requirements regarding letters of recommendation; it is important to consult the corresponding application guidelines for criteria regarding how many letters to submit and from whom they should come.

When filling out the application, please provide the names of ALL recommenders writing letters on your behalf. The most convenient way to have recommendations sent is through the online process.

There is also a downloadable recommendation form on the USC Graduate Admission Web site; you may forward this form to your recommender and he/she may fill it out and mail it directly to Annenberg Admissions, with or without an additional letter. Finally, a recommender can send their own letter without any form to Annenberg Admissions. Please ensure that your name and intended major are reflected on the envelope and the letter.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
GRE score results are required to complete your graduate application for admission to all Annenberg degree programs, except for the M.A./MSc in Global Communication. You may submit your online USC Graduate Admission Application without GRE score results; however, your application will not be complete until the official scores are received electronically from ETS. Scores are usually reported within four weeks of the test date. Please refer to the GRE Web site for test locations and other information. USC Graduate School requires a minimum GRE score of 1,000 (verbal plus quantitative score combined) and Annenberg recommends a minimum 550 verbal score and 5.0 writing score. All complete applications are reviewed regardless of test scores. If you test more than once, the highest subscores are used in the admission consideration process.
