When a story appears in a newspaper, magazine or online, nothing can replace the clear writing and comprehensive reporting critical to explaining the complexities of the world. Based on professional discipline, the ability to think critically and the confidence to write effectively under the pressure of tight deadlines, Annenberg’s Master of Arts emphasis in Print Journalism is for individuals who want a career in one of the most demanding of professions.

Upon completion of the convergence core curriculum, students are prepared to pursue advanced courses in areas of investigative, international and specialized reporting as well as magazine and editorial writing. Most important, every student learns the historical, social, legal and ethical foundations that transform a craft into a profession.

Tested daily by assignments in the nation’s second largest city, students confront the challenges of reporting, ethics and judgment in both the classroom and on the street. Many start their on-the-job training by generating hard news clips at the award-winning Daily Trojan newspaper. Others work on computer-assisted reporting, Web publishing and new media technology in the state-of-the-art Annenberg Online Journalism & Communication Program. The Online Journalism & Communication Program offers hands-on experience in dealing with the growing ethical, legal and strategic issues in online publishing. Beyond the campus, internships with national and international newspapers, magazines and online services create challenges that no classroom can match.
