Broadcast

Devoted to the production of television news, non-fiction programming and radio reporting, Annenberg’s Master of Arts emphasis in Broadcast Journalism provides the training needed to work in a wide array of news, public affairs, documentary production and electronic media.

In addition to learning the basic techniques of writing, reporting and production across all three media, students receive comprehensive training in the fundamentals of journalism – how to analyze and evaluate information, reason logically from a sound perspective, prepare effective visual and audio messages and understand the legal and social issues of working in mass media. The television news curriculum emphasizes strong writing skills as a foundation for field reporting and studio production. Broadcast students have the opportunity to work on two award-winning broadcast programs – "Annenberg TV News," a live nightly newscast, and "Impact," a television newsmagazine. Graduate students are encouraged to research, write, shoot, edit, produce and present news stories on the nightly "Annenberg TV News." Longer features, investigative pieces and student-produced documentaries appear on "Impact." (Subscribe to the podcast of "Impact.")

Students interact with working television news professionals and use state-of-the-art digital equipment in all stages of production. For those interested in obtaining production and on-air radio experience in sports, entertainment, music and news programming, the student-run radio station, KSCR, provides 24 hours of opportunities, seven days a week. Annenberg Radio News provides training in the latest in radio journalism, with live news Webcasts two times a week. Additional experience is available to students in the form of internships at major broadcast networks, regional and local affiliates, and a number of cable TV networks.
