Sotomayor named senior fellow at Institute for Justice & Journalism

Award-winning journalist and editor Frank Sotomayor has been named a senior fellow at the USC Annenberg Institute for Justice and Journalism (IJJ). At the Institute, he will explore ways to encourage better news coverage of social justice issues. "Frank Sotomayor brings IJJ a rich array of talent and experience as an award-winning editor, journalism educator and longtime leader of efforts to bring racial diversity to news media," said IJJ director Steve Montiel. "His expertise will enable us to improve and expand resources for journalists, educators and students." Sotomayor’s journalism career spans more than 35 years, including 18 years as the city editor of the Los Angeles Times, where he wrote and co-edited the Pulitzer Prize-winning series "Latinos in Southern California." He was also co-founder of the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education and the California Chicano News Media Association. He was named to the Hall of Fame of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in 2002.
