Rebecca Johnson graduated cum laude from the USC Annenberg School in May 2011 with a B.A. in Communication (Entertainment and Society) and a minor in Advertising. She also has a minor degree from the Thornton School of Music and in the summer of 2011 completed an album of original songs for distribution in Japan. Her experience with sound production and a life-long dedication to the study of popular music uniquely qualify her to research and support an area of communication aesthetics developed around music, culture, identity, technology, and industry. Johnson has worked on projects with the Norman Lear Center's Popular Music Project (PMP), and is currently studying the music listening practices of female soldiers during deployment in Afghanistan and Iraq. Johnson states her long term goal is ”to contribute to the analysis of media arts in the digital age and participate in the quest for new models of bringing as much music, art and entertainment to as many people as possible while fairly compensating the creators and producers.”
