Rebecca Johnson graduated cum laude from the USC Annenberg School in May 2011 with a B.A. in Communication (Entertainment and Society) and a double minor in Music Recording and Advertising. In the summer of 2011 she completed an album of original songs for release in Japan. Her experience with sound production and a life-long dedication to the study of popular music and psychology uniquely qualify her to research and support an area of communication aesthetics developed around music, identity, community building, and culture. Johnson was a member of the 2010-2011 Popular Music Project (PMP) student working group that developed a concept for an iPad music application and she is working with the PMP on a sheet music mining project for the Los Angeles Public Library. Johnson states her long term goal is ”to contribute to the analysis of media arts in the digital age and participate in the quest for new models of bringing as much music, art and entertainment to as many people as possible while fairly compensating the creators and producers.” Becca is currently working on studying the music listening practices of female soldiers during deployment.
