Gordon Stables is the director of debate and a clinical assistant professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication.
His responsibilities include co-directing the Trojan Debate Squad (TDS), USC's nationally competitive debate program. The debate squad was USC's first chartered student organization and it has developed a tradition of excellence. As the director of debate, he helps to recruit both undergraduate and graduate students and oversee the coaching of the
Trojan Debate Squad.
He is an active member of the collegiate debate community and currently serve as the Southern California representative to the
Cross-Examination Debate Association, the District One (California) representative to the
National Debate Tournament and as the incoming chair of the
American Forensics Association's Educational Development and Practices Committee.
He teaches a variety of courses, including Argumentation and Advocacy, Political Communication, Communication as a Liberal Art and a graduate seminar in Public Diplomacy.
Gordon took part in the ABC program
The Scholar where he served as one of the judges for the debate competition. The program featured high school students competing for college scholarships.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, where he met his wife,
Jennifer Bevan, who is on the communication faculties of USC Annenberg and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
