The USC Annenberg Institute of Sports, Media & Society welcomes
Dr. Lawrence Wenner for a conversation about the construction of sports fans in popular discourse. The discussion is sponsored by the Annenberg Institute of Sports, Media, & Society, and will be hosted by communication professor
Dr. Daniel Durbin. This conversation will examine the landscape of sports media and the avenues it creates for shaping the state of contemporary gender-based distinctions. Dr. Wenner will discuss his research that examines the phenomenon and meaning of mocking the male sports fan in commercial narratives. Dr. Wenner’s presentation is part of the Annenberg Institute of Sports Media & Society’s Sports & Social Change Speaker Series, which has received generous support from Nike. Lunch will be served.
