Annenberg Research Seminar, a Special Presentation of the ARNIC Speaker Series: Ricardo Ramirez, University of Guelph
Geoffrey Cowan Forum (Annenberg Room 207), 12 noon
Join Annenberg students and faculty for a presentation by Ricardo Ramírez, freelance researcher, consultant and adjunct professor at the University of Guelph in Ontario. His talk will focus on issues explored in his new book, Communication for Another Development: Listening Before Telling, co-authored with Wendy Quarry. Development practitioners have long assumed that good communication makes for good community and economic development. In contrast to conventional communication that focuses on ‘telling,’ Quarry & Ramirez argue that “good communication” is participatory communication that emphasizes ‘listening.’ They explore examples of development from Canada to Mozambique where people have been given the tools to express their needs as they define them. Lunch will be served.
