World Press Photo 2008 Events
Annenberg School for Communication

The following events will take place in conjunction with the the leading international press-photography competition World Press Photo 2008 Exhibition at USC Annenberg. World Press Photo is part of Visions and Voices: The USC Arts & Humanities Initiative.

The World Press Photo 2008 exhibit will be displayed in the Annenberg East Lobby, Mon.–Fri. 10am-7pm, Sat. 10am-5pm. Closed Jan. 19 Closes at 1:30 pm Feb. 5, 2009.

Monday, January 12, 1 p.m.

Members of the media are invited to a tour of the World Press Photo 08 exhibit conducted by project manager Femke van der Valk. Open to credentialed members of media organizations; RSVP required. E-mail Alex Boekelheide, boekelhe@usc.edu, to register for this event.

“Behind the Lens” discussion with the winners of World Press Photo 2008
Tim Hetherington , winner of World Press Photo of the Year 2007 and other winners of the 2008 contest will show and discuss their work. Hetherington won with an image of a weary American soldier in Afghanistan. He is a freelance photographer and filmmaker who creates diverse forms of visual narratives from long-term projects. Hetherington will be joined by Erika Larsen, winner for a series on child hunters published in Field & Stream, David Liittschwager, winner for images of microscopic sea creatures published in National Geographic and Justin Maxon, winner for an image of a homeless Vietnamese woman and her child. The program is subject to change. RSVP requested.
