Annenberg Research Seminar: Dean Ernest J. Wilson III, USC and Rahul Tongia, Carnegie Mellon University Geoffrey Cowan Forum (Annenberg Room 207), 12 p.m. | |

Join students and faculty for a presentation by
Dean Ernest J. Wilson III, Walter Annenberg Chair in Communication, and
Dr. Rahul Tongia, from the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. Their topic: "Multiple and Growing Costs of Network Exclusion." From Dr. Tongia: "In this talk, we revisit the issues and challenges of network exclusion, showing how current models fall short due to their focus on inclusion (e.g., Metcalfe's Law). We show that costs to the excluded can rise exponentially, and there are often other hidden societal costs to exclusion. This work has strong application to connectivity and the so-termed digital divide but also to many other networks found in society and nature." Lunch will be served.
