Annenberg Research Seminar: Zohar Kampf
Annenberg Room 207, 12 p.m.
Join students and faculty for a presentation by Zohar Kampf, visiting scholar at the UCLA Center for Language, Interaction, and Culture. His topic: "The Age of Apology: Evidence from Israeli Public Discourse."  From Dr. Kampf: "My talk focuses on the increasing centrality of public apologies in contemporary global and local politics.  Drawing on the Israeli case, I will corroborate the impressionist claim made by scholars in various disciplines that contemporary global society is living in the 'Age of Apology.' I suggest reasons for the emergence and the extension of the practice of apologizing and argue that the adoption of the practice in the Israeli public arena has turned the apology into a common rhetorical genre (as compared to the past), utilized by public figures, organizations, and institutions as a means of image restoration and as a tool for managing social and political relationships with other public figures." Lunch will be served.
