Annenberg Colloquium: Hollywood, Health & Society
Annenberg Room 207, 12:00 p.m.

Please join panelists from the USC Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center for a series of presentations that will describe the role of health issues in the entertainment industry.  Since Fall 2001, the Lear Center's Hollywood, Health & Society (HH&S) project has been working with TV writers and producers to help them create accurate health storylines for daytime and primetime TV shows. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute, HH&S relies on USC faculty and students to help monitor and evaluate the impact of TV health content. Presenters include Vicki Beck, director of Hollywood, Health & Society, who will offer an overview of the HH&S program, including five-year results, a summary of student research and internship projects, and opportunities for student involvement; communication doctoral student Heather J. Hether, who will report on health content in 2006 TV shows, and share results from a study of a diabetes storyline on Law & Order: SVU which had a significant impact on African American viewers; and Tom Valente, director of the Keck School of Medicine's MPH Program, who will describe a student evaluation project to analyze the impact of two breast cancer storylines on viewers of Grey's Anatomy and ER.

RSVP requested. To RSVP, email enter@usc.edu. Lunch will be served.
