Knight Chair Presentation: The Vision Identification Project: Virgin of the Rocks, 2006 Annenberg East Lobby, Mezzanine level, All day | |
The Knight Chair in Media and Religion presents an exhibit by photographer
Matt Gainer.
From Gainer: "On the 13th of every month, believers gather in California City to witness a woman having a vision of the Virgin Mary. What can this event tell us about religion in modern America? What can it tell us about ethnicity, race and class in southern California? How can we see – and take photos of – the invisible?"
Gainer trained in art and photography at Washington University and USC. He has presented and performed his work in public spaces as well as more than 25 group and solo exhibitions at venues such as the Visual Studies Workshop and CEPA Gallery in New York, Barnsdall Municipal Gallery and Angels Gate Cultural Center in California. He is also a specialist in the digital manipulation and preservation of images.
