USC Annenberg again hosts the Aarons Summer Institute as a pre-AEJMC conference workshop for journalism educators. The Institute, organized by communication school director Larry Gross and journalism professor Félix Gutiérrez, was established in memory of the late journalism professor and legendary reporter and editor Leroy Aarons. The program features presentations on key sexual orientation issues and discussions of how to better prepare journalism and communication faculty and students to understand and cover them. Presenters include scholars and professionals with international reputations in the field, local journalists covering these issues, and representatives of GLBT activist and professional organizations.
