Screening & Discussion: LosAngelesNow
Annenberg Room 331, 2:00 pm
Join Prof. Flix Gutirrez for a special screening of "LosAngelesNow", a PBS documentary showing how Los Angeles, once "the whitest city in America", became "the most multicultural city in the world", and a conversation with producer/director Phillip Rodriguez. The HDTV production tells how "the city's cultural transformation has gone largely overlooked by the movies, the media and even many of its residents." Also featured are dramatic views of the city's growing cultural diversity, conversations with Angelenos such as actress Salma Hayek and former Lakers coach Phil Jackson, and questions on how the multicutural mix affects the city and the nation. Rodriguez, an award-winning documentary producer, is the writer of a Grammy-nominated song and founder of Avance, a national Latino arts magazine. The screening and conversation are part of Journalism 466, People of Color and the News Media class taught by Professor Gutirrez..
