The Hacker Ethic: A Radical Approach To The Philosophy Of Business

A Presentation by Pekka Himanen, Director of the Berkeley Center for Information Society & senior researcher at the Helsinki University of Technology The talk analyzed the culture of the information age, especially how the growing role of innovation is leading to a new creative work ethic: the hacker ethic (here, hacker does not mean computer criminals but what the word originally meant, enthusiastic innovators). Dr. Pekka Himanen is an internationally well-known researcher of the information age, whose books on the subject have been published in 18 languages. His works include The Hacker Ethic and the Spirit of the Information Age and The Information Society and the Welfare State: The Finnish Model with Manuel Castells. Himanen has also acted as an advisor on the information society to the Finnish President, government and parliament, as well as to leading international institutions. Currently, Dr. Himanen is the Director of the Berkeley Center for Information Society.
