U.S. International Broadcasting: Challenges and Opportunities in the Middle East, Iran, and China
Leaders from the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which includes the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio and TV Marti, and other U.S. international broadcasting services, convened at USC Annenberg in October for a forum on U.S. International Broadcasting. BBG board member Norman Pattiz presented new programming and results of the new service, Radio Sawa, which targets young audiences in the Middle East. Other sessions focusing on U.S. international broadcasting to Iran and China featured USC Annenberg faculty, international journalists, BBG board members and staff. Geoffrey Cowan, who served as director of the Voice of America from 1994 to 1996, moderated the forum.
