Holder of the Raymond Williams Chair at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication, Associate Professor
Barbie Zelizer will discuss the ways in which atrocity photos appeared during World War II in the American and British popular press. How have these images been used to promote remembrance and understanding of the Holocaust and more recent atrocities, such as those in Rwanda, Bosnia, and Cambodia? Professor Zelizer is the winner of the 1999 Bruno Brand Tolerance Book award and author of the newly published book Visual Culture and the Holocaust.
