Opening Reception for World Press Photo 2007
Join the Annenberg School for the World Press Photo 2007 opening reception.
From World Press Photo, "World Press Photo is known for organizing the world's largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest. Prizewinning photographs are assembled into a traveling exhibition that is visited by over two million people in some 45 countries worldwide. A yearbook presenting all prizewinning entries is published annually in six languages."

Thursday, January 17
Behind the Lens
Spencer Platt, winner of the 2006 World Press Photo of the Year, and other winners of the 2007 contest will show and discuss their work. Platt is a staff photographer for Getty Images and has covered assignments in countries including Iraq, Liberia, Congo, Indonesia, Lebanon and the United States.
Platt will be joined by Nina Berman, a documentary photographer who published "Purple Hearts - Back from Iraq," portraits and interviews with soldiers wounded in Iraq, and David Butow, whose images of Shanghai, China, will be published in a book by National Geographic Traveler this summer.

Friday, January 18
High School and College Photojournalism Day
The Los Angeles Times and the USC Annenberg School for Communication sponsor a photojournalism seminar for high school and university students. Among the teachers will be Spencer Platt of Getty Images who won the 50th annual World Press Photo contest, Nina Berman, a documentary photographer since 1989, David Butow, contract photographer with U.S. News & World Report and Luis Sinco, Los Angles Times staff photographer whose photograph of a battle-weary James Blake Miller with a cigarette dangling from his mouth made him an emblem of the Iraq war. The photojournalism seminar is free, and is open to teachers as well as students. Registration by January 14th required. To register, click here.
