Dublin Internship Program- Summer Only
We are no longer accepting applications for the Summer 2012 program. For Summer 2013, please revisit this page in November 2012.
Program
The Dublin Internship program allows USC undergraduate students to intern in the field of their choice in Dublin, Ireland. The program is nine weeks long, consisting of a one-week orientation upon arrival and an eight-week unpaid internship at a premier Irish organization. Students will work four days/week for the duration of their internships. The program dates for 2012 are May 28 - July 28, 2012.
Location
Dublin is the capital and largest city in the Republic of Ireland (Eire), with a population of roughly a million and a half in the greater Dublin area. Cosmopolitan, trendy and exciting, Dublin has a vibrant cultural, business and tourism base, and is home to many of the Republic’s, and Europe’s most prestigious businesses.
Curriculum
Students must enroll in COMM 205 for the summer semester. The course will be taught entirely online. The goal and focus of this class is to provide students with a unique educational and practical experience within the international communications arena, as well as an opportunity to explore their own personal career development goals. Students will address communication and work/career issues in an international setting. Students will have weekly reading assignments and will be required to submit internship journals throughout the semester.
Internship Placement
Internship placement services will be provided to all students. Students can choose the field for their internship, such as Non-Party Politics, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Arts Organization and Film & Television Production. (Business, Finance and Marketing internships will not be available.) Internship preferences must be indicated on the application, which can be printed from the link at the bottom of the page. International Programs and Career Development (along with the internship placement company) cannot make any guarantees if specific companies are requested, but will do their best to match preferences as closely as possible. Once admitted into the program, students will then have an internship placement interview in late February. Internship offers will be made by email in March and April.
Housing
Students will live in single rooms in suite-style apartments in Shanowen Square, located three miles from Dublin City Center. All apartments are fully fitted and fully equipped, with broadband internet access and linens provided on site. Other amenities include an on site 24-hour convenience store, laundry facilities, landscaped gardens and security services.
Admission Requirements
The program is open only to students who will be at Junior or Senior standing at the commencement of the program. Students must have a minimum cumulative USC GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate preparedness, maturity and responsibility to represent USC well while interning in Dublin. All USC students (except Business majors/minors) may apply. Business majors and minors should pursue internship opportunities in Dublin through the Marshall School of Business.
