LOS ANGELES, June 21, 2006 —Hollywood, Health & Society, a partnership of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the USC Annenberg School’s Norman Lear Center, announces a call for entries for the second annual Everett M. Rogers Award for Achievement in Entertainment Education.
Arvind Singhal, a renowned scholar at Ohio University and a former colleague of the late Everett Rogers, was the award’s inaugural recipient in 2005. He was recognized for scholarly contributions to the field of entertainment education.
This year, nominations of practitioners in the field of entertainment education, including artists and/or producers of entertainment education programs are also welcomed.
“Practitioners and scholars alike have made very significant contributions to the field of entertainment education. This is a fitting opportunity to acknowledge their work” said Peter Clarke, director of the Center for Health and Medical Communication at USC Annenberg School for Communication.
Nomination packages should include the practitioner or scholar’s resumé including presentations and publications; a letter of nomination from a scholar or practitioner in the field of entertainment education explaining the excellence and innovativeness of the candidate’s work; and a copy of the publication or sample of the project for which the nomination is made. Materials are due Monday, June 26, 2006 and should be submitted to Sandra M. Recipients of the Everett M. Rogers Award for Achievement in Entertainment Education will be recognized at the annual Sentinel for Health Awards event on September 27, 2006. The event is produced by the Hollywood, Health & Society project at the USC Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center. In addition, the Rogers Award recipient will present their work at a USC colloquium for students and faculty.
Funded by the CDC and NCI, Hollywood, Health & Society provides entertainment industry professionals with accurate and timely information for health storylines, including free consultations and briefings with CDC and NCI experts.
